The Sparks Camera and Lightning LTD, The Hungarian Society of Cinematographers and the HSC Crew School has founded the László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond Cinematographer Awards. This award continues the traditions of the Aranyszem (Goldeneye) Cinematographer Awards which was founded in 2004 by Emil Novák.
The awards will be given out every year in January. The first award ceremony was on January 30th, 2018 in the Pesti Vigadó. Here the widows of László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond handed Life

Achievement Awards to János Kende, Lajos Koltai, Elemér Ragályi, Gyula Pados and Sándor Sára. Vilmos Zsigmond has supported the student category of the Goldneye awards since 2005. For this reason this was the only category this year.

The jury was made of Tamás Lajos producer, András Nagy cinematographer, Csaba Káel director – who worked with Zsigmond Vilmos in Bánk bán – and Emil Novák cinematographer and President of the Hungarian Film Academy. The winner of the student category also received Vilmos Zsigmond’s camera package from Sparks Camera and Lightning LTD. and service offer from the Hungarian Film Laboratory.
2018 is an important year for the cinematographers’ society, because it marks the 80th anniversary of the first organization of cinematographers founded by István Somkuti in 1938.
