The first Bristol International Festival of Cinematography (BIFC)

From 16th-18th September 2015 the first Bristol International Festival of Cinematography (BIFC) will form a major part of the week at the Encounters Film Festival this year. Aimed at emerging talent, students and industry professionals there will be inspirational masterclasses and screenings with major figures from the global industry. Some of the world’s top cinematographers will share expertise from their work on the world’s biggest movies.

Academy award winners and BAFTA honoured cinematographers will present and share the secrets of their success and the challenges in the rapidly evolving landscape of image capture and display. These events are in partnership with the Centre for Moving Image Research at the University of the West of England and take place at the Arnolfini Centre just across the water from Watershed, Encounter’s main hub.

Roberto Schaefer (one of CMIR’s guest speakers in 2013), who shot Quantum of Solace, The Kite Runner and Finding Neverland , Stuart Dryburgh ( the Piano, Blackhat, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Bridget Jones’s Diary) and Nick Knowland ( Berberian Sound Studio, The Duke of Burgundy) will be there – subject to their production schedules. *

Alongside workshops, cinematographers and filmmakers will also be talking about their work and their own favourite movies.

The three day festival, sponsored by Creative Skillset, VMI and Panalux, will run from Wed 16- Fri 18th September 2015.
