IMAGO
invites you to participate in "PLUS CAMERIMAGE forum
2007" held during the 15 th edition of “Plus Camerimage – International
Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography”, a festival that
has established itself as a worldwide reference in film industry.
CAMERIMAGE
is inaugurating its 15 th edition (November, 24). Among many
events, the organizers invite you to Plus Camerimage 2007
Forum - a meeting devoted to legal issues related to cinematographer's
work, such as copyrights and cinematographers' working conditions,
personal image and film image in the context of modern, portable
media devices.
IMAGO
takes this opportunity to personally congratulate CAMERIMAGE's
fifteen years of existence dedicated to the celebration of
the Art of Cinematography. We are glad to commemorate this
edition together and happily bear witness on your effort
and dedication through the years to validate Cinematography
as a living Art.
Every
year, a review of a European country or region, is an inseparable
part of PLUS CAMERIMAGE – International Film Festival of
The Art of Cinematography. Its aim is to bring the international
audience closer to the contemporary cinema of the Old Continent.
Both
Director and Cinematographer have a close relation during
a shooting. That always happens even when the relation occurs
to be a distant one (for some reason) because at the end
of the day what the spectator sees has a lot of
both. Being so, CAMERIMAGE's Director-Cinematographer award
has been created and it is one of the most celebrated awards
in Cinematography.
Best
European Cinematographer nominees - On the
1 st of December the winners will be announced in Berlin,
during the 20th European Film Awards edition. Get to know
this year's Best Cinematography nominees a bit better.
The
Newsletter of Art, Technique and Technology for Film, Video and
Digital Production is now available online for Imago Members,

Israeli
Film Academy has recently celebrated its 19 th edition in
Tel-Aviv. This year's Best Cinematography Award went to Ofer
Inov for his collaboration in “Beaufort” (2007) directed
by Joseph Cedar. The film was also awarded with Best Art
Direction, Best Sound and Best Editing awards.
Celebrating
its 10 th anniversary, ADF – Argentinean Society of Cinematographers
presents a film program that casts a look over cinematography
in Argentinean film over the last thirty years.

FILM ACADEMY DOCUMENTARY 2007 - Prix ARTE goes to the film

Pusan
International Film Festival, one of the top Asian festivals,
has recently celebrated its 12 th edition in South Korea.
The only competitive section of Pusan's has presented, this
year, eleven films from around the world premiering internationally.

Things
change. Since 1998 when the book “50 Anos Luz” ( 50 Light
Years) was written to today, 2007, a lot of things have
changed in cinematography. Of all these changes nothing has changed

the last edition of Cannes Festival 2007, the French Association
of Directors of Photography (AFC) has received Antonio Riestra
(President of the Mexican Society of Cinematographers) – AMC)
in AFC-CST's pavilion.
The
first volume of the “Dictionary of World Cinematographers” written
by Stefano Masi, journalist and writer on Italian cinema, was
recently published in Italy. Masi has offered his book to AFC
(French Association of Directors of Photography).
CAMERIMAGE
has announced that the Special Award to Director-Cinematographer
Duo at the 15th anniversary edition of PLUS CAMERIMAGE will be
granted to Czech filmmakers Jirí Menzel and Jaromír Šofr.

members of the International Jury of the 28th International Cinematographers'
Film Festival MANAKI BROTHERS has decided to grant:
New “ Laszlo
Kovacs Student Award” - The International Film Festival of
the Art of Cinematography PLUS CAMERIMAGE (24 Nov-1 Dec,
Poland ) will honour Laszlo Kovacs (1933-2007) granting every
year the “Laszlo Kovacs Student Award”.He was an inspiration
for many film school students who had a chance to learn from
him also at numerous editions of Camerimage Festival.
MANAKI
BROTHERS Awards ANATOLI PETRITSKY Life Achievement Award “GOLDEN
CAMERA 300” winner at the 28th ICFF MANAKI BROTHERS is the giant
of Russian and world film, Anatoli Petritsky. The Festival will
be held between September 25-30 at Bitola, Republic of Macedonia.
Anatoly Petritsky (75) is in the ranks of the most eminent and
one of the most respected cinematographers.
On
its 5 th edition Budapest hosts once again the “Budapest Cinematography
Masterclass”, held every two years. This year, the Masterclass
will have an intensive schedule form 17-30, September.

AFC
and AEC Workshop “The French Society of Cinematographers – AFC ” will
organize a workshop in partnership with Spanish “EPC” during
the next edition of “Festival of San Sebastían” - Spain.
The workshop also has the support of “Spanish Association of
Cinematographers – AEC ”. The chosen theme is “hybrid” shootings:
the usage of different camera formats (film and digital).
The
organizers of the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography
CAMERIMAGE and POLKOMTEL S.A., Plus network operator have an
honour to inform about concluding the agreement, according to
which PLUS becomes the Titular Sponsor of CAMERIMAGE Festival
Another
edition of the “European Film Awards” is being prepared and
will take place in Berlin, December 1. Recently, a short
list of 42 films was announced, making official those who
are running for this year's Awards. On the list 26 countries
represented, illustrate vividly the great diversity of European
cinema.
Once
again the “International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography” will
be held from the 24th of November to the 1st of December 2007
in Lodz , Poland . This year's edition will have something special
because it celebrates its 15 th anniversary. This is one of the
most awaited festivals by Cinematographers having also achieved

than watches and chocolates. Between the 1 st and the 11th
of August, Locarno has once more hosted its International
Film Festival. Numbers show that there is a growing business
activity for films competing, and winning, at Locarno's.
BRUSSELS
-- Euro-MPs have confirmed a €250 million ($344.6 million)
plan for a European digital library that will include movies
and television programs in its massive archive. The project,
which will be co-funded from the European Union's budget,
will include 6 million cultural works and be available to
anyone with an Internet connection.
As
more digital imagery travels from one platform to another,
new industry wide software code has been developed to ensure
that colors remain correct. The ASC CDL [Color Decision List],
an important means for sharing critical color-correction
information between different color-correction platforms.
The “Center
of resources of full-length film, and accompaniment of projects
of authors, directors and technicians”, Altermédia will
promote several workshops in October 2007.
Ingmar
Bergman (b. 1918, Sweden) began his career in a puppet theatre
where he, his sister and their friends played. Professionally
he began writing in 1941
Michelangelo
Antonioni (b. 1912, Italy) graduated in Economics at the
University of Bologna working then as a bank teller. At the
same time he also did film critic for a local newspaper.
Around 1940 he moved to Rome working as editorial secretary
at Cinema..
What
would you do if someone offered you a job living at the South
Pole for 13 months in total isolation filming a documentary for
television following the biological cycle of a bird species.
You return after 13 months to your European city. The production
company then tells you the exceptional quality of imagery means
that they are turning this documentary into a feature film. The
movie becomes a smash hit with audiences around the world. It
makes lots of money. It gets nominated for the Academy Award
in the Best Documentary category. The Director and Producers
attend the Oscar ceremony. You are not invited.
Italian
Film Academy (Accademia del Cinema Italiano) has awarded
this year's Best Cinematography David Donnatello Award to
Fabio ZAMARION by La Sconosciuta/ The Unknown Woman (2006).
The film was written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore.
The film has also won Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading
Actress (Ksenia Rappoport) and Best Soundtrack (Ennio Morricone).
The
8th MADRIDIMAGEN'07 edition will take place from October
the 15 th to October the 20 th , at Circulo de Bellas Artes
(Madrid, Spain). MADRIDIMAGEN'07, invites any IMAGO's associate
to submit their film(s), in order to compete at the Best
Cinematography section.
This
year's programme is a broad sweep of both the familiar and
the new, but always highly relevant to today's electronic
media industry. Michael Crimp is this years' CEO. On its'
40 th edition, IBC will be held in Amsterdam. Conference:
6-10 September and Exhibition: 7-11 September.
IMAGO
pays his deepest regrets to Lazlo Kovacs' family and friends
and publicly states both the loss of a great man and of an
excellent cinematographer. "Laszlo Kovacs, one of Hollywood's
most influential and respected directors of photography,
died Saturday night in his sleep. He was 74.

its 54 th edition, the British Society of Cinematographers has
announced the nominations for their Best Cinematography Award
for films released in the UK during the year 2006. The Award
will be announced at presented on Sunday 15th July 2007 at the
BSC Summer Luncheon at Pinewood Studios. This year's nominated
are as follows.
Presents
'Lifetime Achievement Award' to JOE DUNTON MBE BSC. The 2007
Cine Gear Expo Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring a lifetime
of service to cinematographers and the art and craft of filmmaking,
was presented to Joe Dunton MBE BSC at the Expo party on
Friday 22nd June. Joe was very proud to be recognised and
prophesied that Cine Gear would become the world platform
for new equipment in these rapidly changing times.
The
Greek Society of Cinematographers (GSC) has launched its
new website both in Greek and English. This is an important
event that brings closer Greek Cinematography and Film to

sadly reports that the English Cinematographer ALEX THOMSON,
78 years old, died on June 14th, 2007 at 8 a.m. The European
Federation of Cinematographers offers its deepest regrets to
ALEX THOMSON's family and friends. Having started his career
when he was 18 years old, THOMSON slowly climbed the Cinematographer's
ladder. After having acquired significant experience during his
thirties as camera operator, especially under Nicolas Roeg's
direction, it was in his forties, during the end of 60's decade,
that he started working as Cinematographer.
The
new digital camera Red One 4K has been presented « in
flesh and bone » at NAB. It's 12 megapixels sensor,
the Mysterium CMOS, has a 4520x2540 resolution in 4K. The sensor's
dimensions (24,4 x 13,7 mm) are the same as a Super 35 image.
Having a 3,6Kg weight, this camera also has a PL mounting, compatible
with 16 and 35mm formats. But Red has also produced
its' own lenses, a 300mm and a 18-35 zoom.
The
personal movie camera that was used by silent screen legend,
Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) in the making of many of his classic
films will be offered at Christie's South Kensington on Wednesday

Budapest Cinematography Masterclass is a biannual workshop that
has been successfully running since 1991. During the two-week
schedule postgraduate film school students, and young professionals,
do film lighting and shooting exercises under the supervision
of the world's greatest living cinematographers

2007 .

March 19 th to 25 th , already for the tenth time, the Diagonale
07, took place in the small and pleasant town of Graz , where
a review of Austrian films, which were produced during the last
year, were presented and some of them awarded.

National Film Awards ceremony, Jussi Awards, was held last February,

have shot during two days with the digital camera ARRI D20
in the last month of June in Zaragoza and inside of Congress
TEA 2006. Test of the camera have done in video mode HD 1920x1080,
24fps, Mechanical shutter of 172´8º, 1:1.85 and
with gamma curve ITU R BT.709 EI320 and at times curve Log
C and Filmstream , recording in a Sony HDCAM SR 4:4:4 SQ
in RGB and 10 linear bits.
