The
19 th edition of European Film Awards, promoted by the European
Film Academy , had its award gala last December, 2, in Warsaw
( Poland ).
On
the 3rd of December, CAMERIMAGE 2006 winners were
announced.

The
most famous cinematographer of all times has left us last
September 20th in the afternoon. He was retired already for
a few years. Sven Nykvist was born in December 3 rd 1922
. He was about to be 84 years of age.

On
Sunday, 17th September 2006, the cinecAward was presented
in a festive ceremony in the presence of the state ministers
Eberhard Sinner and Erwin Huber in the Kammersaal of the
Chamber of Commerce in Munich.
From
the 27 th to 31 st of May the Bulgarian Association of Cinematographers
had their biannual Golden Eye Film Festival. The festival takes
place in the central Bulgarian town of Popovo , since this is
the birthplace of one of the most renowned Bulgarian Cinematographers - Dimo
Kolarov (1924-97). The municipality of Popovo host the BAC Golden
Eye Festival.
The
XIII International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography - CAMERIMAGE
will be held from November 26 th to December 4 th 2006 , in Lodz
Poland.
On
march 20th 2006 DOP Jørn G. Broll was elected new president
of the Norwegian Society of Filmphotographers.

The Hungarian cinematographer György Illés HSC has died last 12 of June with the age of 92. The well renowned cinematographer has shot around 70 films since 1949.
In Oslo, last May 5th and 6th was held the 1st IMAGO Digital Cinema Conference. Two hundred people have attended the Conference.

The Portuguese cinematographer Carlos Lopes aip was awarded in the Last “Mar del Plata Film Festival in Buenos Aires with Best Photography award.
Zeljko Saric from Croatia has been dedicated to a photo technique called by himself the “Cinegraphy” . He uses still cameras to create innovative images and shoots in 360º. As far as we know he has been using it for more than 20 years.
At the next exhibition at NAB-Las Vegas Panther will introduce its new Foxy Advanced Compact Crane.
P+S Technik will be showing a new brand of products at NAB – Las Vegas between 24-27 of April. The new products include. John Mathieson BSC was elected by the BSC society for the Best Cinematography Award 2006 for his work in “Phantom of the Opera”

The Film festival itself was a great mix of national and international movies. Too many to see all (but I tried hard).
The idea of the ACK Prizes was the brainchild of the current President of the Association, Josef Hanus, an outstanding Czech cinematographer and the son of the famous Czech cinematographer Vaclav Hanus. His idea that the Association might acquire a higher profile by means of the Prizes and thus increase the respect in which the profession of cinematographer was held has been fully vindicated.

The next edition of the BSC Equipment Show will be heldon Friday 17th and Saturday 18th of March.
The Australian cinematographer Dion Beebe has collected the higher prize in the category of Best Cinematography at the latest Bafta awards ceremony. This was his second in a row. Last year Dion Beebe has received the same award for the movie “Collateral”.

In order to learn and understand this new feature to work with, there is nothing better to listen what the pioneers have experienced with HD shooting for large screens.
José Luis Linares (Spain 1955) has more than 30 movies in his filmography since has began as a cinematographer in 1980. José was four times nominated before but only at the fifth nomination he got the prize.



Congratulations to our colleagues in Greece whom have just founded the Greek Society of Cinematographers GSC.
It has been recently released a new Sun Predictor tool that can be operated on any PDA and runs with the Windows Pocket PC platform. This instrument is useful for any part of the world.
