Best Cinematography to ALEXIS ZABÉ Ariel Awards have celebrated this year its 50 th edition on March 24, 2008. ALEXIS ZABÉ was awarded Best Cinematography award for his collaboration with director Carlos Reygadas in “Luz silenciosa/ Silent Light”. The film has also won Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Script awards.
ALEXIS ZABÉ began his career doing three shorts between 1994 and 1999 (two of them with director Valentina Leduc Navarro). As the millennium was starting he collaborated with Carlos Cuarón in two shorts having participated between 2001 and 2003 in five shorts and one documentary. One of those shorts was directed by Fernando Eimbcke with whom ZABÉ would do his first feature film “Temporada de Patos/ Duck Season” (2004). The film was widely awarded in festivals around the world and ZABÉ won an Ariel award for it.
Carlos Reygadas has a very short career on one hand, but on the other, he is also one of the most awarded Mexican directors. Up until now he has done three film titles that have grant him a wide recognition: “Japón” (2002), “Batalla en el cielo” (2005) and now “Luz silenciosa/ Silent Light” (2007). This recent film title was already awarded in Cannes , Norway , USA , Spain , Peru and Brazil .
For “Luz silenciosa/ Silent Light” ZABÉ has also won Best Cinematography by Lima Latin American Film Festival ( Peru ) and Havana Film Festival ( Cuba ). For complete Ariel Awards 2008 list click here.
