A report by Françoise Noyon, Image Department representant
General Characteristics The camera can function in 50 Hz or 60 Hz and the velocities available are 50 i/s, 25 i/s, 60 i/s, 30 i/s and 24 i/s. It has two different recording codecs: DVCPRO50 (SD), DVCPROHD and AVCIntra, a new HD codec based on rule H.264, presenting effectiveness two times superior to that of MPEG2. It's sensor is 3CCD, 2/ 3 inches, 1920 x 1080 (full HD), 2, 2 million pixels. Conversion and treatment is done at 14 bits. The camera has “in” and “out” HDSDI, and connections USB2.0 and IEEE 1394. Using USB2.0 the transference occurs at a higher real time velocity (approximately two times superior in HD 100 Mbits/s, and 4 times superior in DVCPRO50). In USB Host mode it's possible to download the content form the card slots to a USB peripheral connected directly to the camera. Using USB Device mode, the camera connects to a computer like a peripheral. The IEEE 1394 connection allows to capture or put out both a DVCPRO50 or a DVCPROHD flux. --- Different HPX 3000 functions: - Digital Super Gain function allows increasing gain with no noise. The principle is as follows: the shutter takes the light during 2 images, then the system superimposes the 2 images to do only one. That generates an effect of blur on the images moving. The DS Gain is really valid only on fixed shots - Le Focus Assist is a histogram of frequencies that appear on the screen. The higher the amplitude, the clearer the image - The CAC function (Chromatic Aberration Compensation) calls upon a data file of certain characteristics of optics to dynamically compensate for the chromatic aberrations according to the positions of "focal distance-iris-point" - The DRS (Dynamic Range Stretcher) compresses the stronger light and stretches the lower light simultaneously and dynamically - The Hot Swap Recording: the slot cards can be inserted or removed at any time with no disturbance of the recording process - The Loop Rec function allows starting the recording process anew - The Pre Rec function allows starting to record 8 seconds before starting - The Interval Rec function allows to record one image with regular intervals (10 s, 20 s...,10 mn) - One Shot, function image/image - Down Conversion: it's possible to put out in SD everything shot in HD - Colour Temperature by manual control - Edition of metadata: name of the film, of the scene, take number, shooting place, memos..., are data which one can charge before filming and which will be associated to each take - Lens File: memorizes the characteristics of each different optic - Gamma Curves: SD, HD, Filmlike 1, 2 and 3, Film-Rec (same curve as Varicam). - Scene Files : 6 x 8 scenes can be used as template in SD card - Set Up Data: memorizes adjustments for different users, so that each user can access them at any time Energy: battery use. ----- Different possibilities of stocking content in P2 slot cards: - The AG-HPG10, portable reading-recording device, allows to read the cards in a HD monitor, copy a card to a different one and to download information to a high capacity hard disk - The AG-PCS060 (P2 Store), 60 Go hard disk, allows downloading cards being able to be reused immediately - The AJPCD20 P2 Drive, card reader, allows connecting up until 5 different cards simultaneously permitting to start editing directly - The FS 100 (FOCUS product), portable recorder of 160 Go, can replace P2 cards allowing DVCPROHD but not AVC-Intra - The Duel Adapter allows reading directly P2 cards in ExpressCard's new ports existing in laptop computers - There are also disks for secure content stocking content of one Tera or more The P2 cards only have mechanical parts in order to get a greater reliability than tape (resistance to temperature, vibrations, chocks, and dust...)
