About the eDIT Filmmakers Festival

The 10 th eDIT Festival was arranged this Autumn in Frankfurt .

“The significance and power of this festival is really incredible!“ These were the opening words of Terry Gilliam's speech as he received Festival Honors last year. Terry Gilliam, Michael Ballhaus, Peter Greenaway, Ray Harryhausen, Roland Emmerich, Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett and Armin Müller-Stahl – they have all been involved in discussions at the Filmmaker's Festival and have given deep insights into their work.

The Festivals programme varies from year to year, but in 2007 it especially focussed on Animation : animated characters and worlds for cinema, short films, TV and computer games, Visual Effects: outstanding visual effects from international cinema, Production : innovations in cameras, editing, sound, script, set design etc., Documentary : “making ofs” of outstanding documentaries, Television : production for TV, and The Media Industry : business and law.

The Festival is held in the end of September/beginning of October each year, and attracts more than 7000 visitors.

Aim

The aim of eDIT and IMAGO is to promote the art of Cinematography to the Festivals public, and to arrange lectures on different topics that are important parts of Cinematography. For example, topics can be technical, like lectures on the digital development in Cinematography, restoration of old films, post production, or the use of filters. It can also be artistic topics, like inviting a cinematographer to talk about the lighting on his or her latest film, or any combinations of these.

Administration

The primary idea is to each year invite and cooperate with one of IMAGOs National Member Societies to make suggestions for the Festival lectures, where the Society will have the responsibility for the lectures or part of the lectures of one specific Festival. This can be a good opportunity to market the National Society, Cinematographers from their Society, and Companies from their Country that has interesting new technology to present that will be of interest to the Festivals participants.

For the first year of cooperation, September/October 2008 the British Society of Cinematographers have aired their interest to cooperate with the Festival.

They are now working on a programme of 4-5 topics/lectures that will be presented to the Board of eDIT shortly.

IMAGOs Annual General Assembly in Amsterdam in February 2008 will discuss which National Society can be interested in cooperating with IMAGO and eDIT in 2009 to present Cinematograhpic topics and lectures of interest at the Festival.

The work will be administered in cooperation by the IMAGO Board, the IMAGO Master Class- and Technical Committees, and different IMAGO Member Societies from year to year.
