15 th – 17 th February 2008 - AMSTERDAM
Once again, IMAGO organises its annual general assembly. This year the place is Amsterdam from the 15 th to the 17 th of February. It will be attending more than 30 national delegates from various European countries to discuss and debate several topics concerning the work and craft of cinematographers.
The agenda this year, concentrates on Art, in special on Dutch Art. To begin the weekend of works there is a must go to the Rijksmuseum to visit the art of the great painters from the renaissance period Rembrandt and Vermeer, two of the most inspirational artists for cinematographers. Amongst many other masterpieces of the museum, cinematographers will be delighted with the works of Van Gogh.
Closing the IMAGO Conference it will be screened at the Dutch film-academy two films that seamlessly fit into the Dutch rich visual tradition of 'imagery'. One is Peter Greenaway's creation of a re-presentation of the painting 'the Nightwatch' called «Nightwatching». The other a screening of «Dutch Light», a film that (according to their makers) examines several questions: " What is Dutch light?
Is the light in Holland really different from that in other parts of the world? What is true, what is myth, what is fiction? And was Joseph Beuys right? Dutch Light addresses these fascinating questions. And it is an ode to light and to observation. It turns looking into a new experience." Both films will be screened in the presence of their successive cinematographers: Paul van den Bos, NSC (Dutch Light) and Reinier van Brummelen, NSC (Nightwatching) who will introduce the films and are available for Q and A after the screening. During this weekend IMAGO will elect a new president and a new board for the period of 2007-2009. The actual president Andreas Fischer- Hans en DFF , and Vice-President Tony Costa AIP and General Secretary Paul René Roestad FNF will be replaced after four years in office. The board feels that this period was very fruitful for IMAGO. The Federation was reorganized financially and politically. IMAGO got far better relations with other institutions and Companies, published the Model Contract for Cinematographers, solved the chaotic situation left with the publication of the book «Making Pictures», got the Federation involved into the new technologies by becoming member of EDCF along with the organization of the Digital Conference in Oslo where was presented the proposal for several frame rates for the digital image. It was kept the flame shinning for the authorship rights for cinematographers and working conditions amongst many other initiatives like the Conference in Huelva for Authorship Rights and publication of DVD's about the Digital Conference and the Declaration of Working Conditions. The IMAGO website was renewed from scratch and communication within members was established along with a permanent collaboration with the British Cinematographer Magazine which widens a new sight for IMAGO. The creation of the IMAGO several committees to work on Educational, Technical, Authorship and Working Conditions programs bring to the European Federation of Cinematographers a wide range of activities to work on. Recently in Frankfurt was signed a contract of collaboration with the directors of the Film Festival eDIT and a fruitful collaboration with the European Forum EUXXL is underway. During this period Greece , Ukraine , Russia , Estonia , Latvia , Lithuania and Slovenia became IMAGO members. Now, very soon are coming to join the federation, Romania and as associate members Australia and New Zealand .
