New “ Laszlo Kovacs Student Award” The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography PLUS CAMERIMAGE (24 Nov-1 Dec, Poland ) will honour Laszlo Kovacs (1933-2007) granting every year the “Laszlo Kovacs Student Award”:
He was an inspiration for many film school students who had a chance to learn from him also at numerous editions of Camerimage Festival. He was always willing to help and give his support to the education and training of the youth. In recognition of Laszlo Kovacs' huge commitment in the talents development of young cinematographers, the organizers of PLUS CAMERIMAGE would like to pay homage to this legendary artist. Starting from this year's edition, the Golden Tadpole presented every year to students for best cinematography, will bear the name of Laszlo Kovacs Student Award. At this year's PLUS CAMERIMAGE our honorary guests: Mr. Kovacs' widow - Audrey Kovacs and Laszlo's close friend - Vilmos Zsigmond will pay tribute to this acclaimed cinematographer and present the first Laszlo Kovacs Student Award - Golden Tadpole to the winner of the Students Etudes Competition.”

“Widely
known and appreciated for his great skills and talents he was
a true master of filmmaking. He started his career in Hungary,
where he was born and where he studied at State Academy of
Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. It was there, where he filmed
the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, together with Vilmos Zigmond,
a fellow student and his close friend. In 1969, twelve years
from fleeing from Hungary and coming to the USA he shot Easy
Rider which gained him a worldwide recognition. During his
fruitful career he made more than 70 feature films and received
many awards and nominations. In 1998 we had an honour to present
him the Camerimage Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2002 he also
received the Lifetime Achievement Award from The American Society
of Cinematographers.
