eDIT 10th Filmmaker's Festival




Lecture by Tom F­ährmann, BVK

On its 10 th edition, eDIT will take place from 30th of September until 2nd of October 2007 at CineStar Metropolis in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). Among many events and surprises, DoP Tom F­ährmann , BVK, talks about “The Art of Cinematography in the Digital Age”.


Festival Honors

This year, the acclaimed independent-director Abel Ferrara will personally attend the Festival Opening Gala on September 30th to receive Festival Honors from the Prime Minister of the State of Hessen, Roland Koch. Abel Ferrara 's oeuvre with works such Bad Lieutenant or Ms. 45 has made a deep impact on contemporary story telling and film making. A public interview with Abel Ferrara within the Festival program is scheduled for Monday, October 1st.

Also as guest of honor: Tippi Hedren that will accept Alfred Hitchcock 's honors award (posthum). The Birds made Tippi Hedren shoot to fame. The actress will talk about working with Alfred Hitchcock in an interview with Carolyn Giardina (“The Hollywood Reporter”).

 

CINEMATOGRAPHY

Tom Fährmann , DoP and VFX-Supervisor ( Das Wunder von Bern , Ulzhan ), describes cognitions and experiences while working with a digital camera in comparsion to a analog one: “The Art of Cinematography in the Digital Age”.

 

Hollywood-Blockbuster's Visual Effects

The presentations of Hollywood-Blockbuster's Visual Effects are a Filmmaker's Festival trademark. This year Academy Award winning VFX-Supervisor John Knoll (ILM) presents the visual effects development within Pirates of the Caribbean (the trilogy).

Hilmar Koch (ILM) Computer Graphics Supervisor forThe Transformers has announced a State of the Art Presentation of Visual Effects, that shows yet unseen material. Rainer Gombos, VFX Supervisor (Pixomondo) introduces one of the most ambitious german feature film productions: Der rote Baron .

Furthermore The Visual Effects for Sunshine (with Tom Wood , MPC) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (with Greg Butler , MPC) are part of the program.



Animation

Bill Plympton presents the Making-of of his upcomming feature film Idiots and Angels – to be released winter 2007. The spectacular character animation for Spider-Man 3 is demonstrated by Lead Character Animator Spencer Cook (Sony Imageworks). The stunning film-like animation of Crysis, Crytek's new computergame is explained by production manager Michael Endres .

 

Sound

With his current animation movie Lissi und der wilde Kaiser comedian Michael „Bully“ Herbig tries something new. The sound-designers explain their work on the movie.

The German production Das Leben der Anderen won an Academy Award. The movie's complex sound-design is presentet by sound designer Christoph von Schoenburg and Hubertus Rath .

 

Editing

The great editors John Wilson ( The Belly of an Architect , Billy Elliot ) and Alan Heim ( Hair , Alpha Dog President ACE) discuss “The Art of Editing”.

 

Digital

Pictorion_Das Werk explains how Faith Akin's latest movie Auf der anderen Seite was digitally produced.

 

Outstanding Documentaries

Am Limit – the latest work of Academy Award winner Pepe Danquart followed two brothers trying to break the record in speed climbing into incredible heights. Veit Helmer took a closer look at Hollywood casting procedures: Behind the Couch delivers bizarre insights in the casting buiseness. Sung-Hyung Cho won with Full Metal Village this years Max-Ophüls-Award for best film. The director and the producer Helge Anders present their funny and uncommon movie.

Copyrights and licences are major aspects when producing films. The use of music can enhance the production budget, not to use a famous title might decrease the results quality. Laywer Guido Hettinger (Brehm & von Moers) gives advise.

eDIT Filmmaker's Festival Party “Work hard –Play hard”

All the festival's participants are invited to join in the fun and festivities on Monday from 9 p.m. at the official party. Dance, chat, chill and grill – anything goes at the Velvet Club. And there will be performances at 9 p.m. by Universum Super and DJ Stone. Entrance: 6 EURO. eDIT-participants are invited free of charge.
