Best Cinematography for RODRIGO PRIETO

On Saturday, September 8, the “Venezia 64 Jury” at the “64th Venice Film Festival ”, chaired by Zhang Yimou and comprised of Catherine Breillat, Jane Campion, Emanuele Crialese, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ferzan Ozpetek and Paul Verhoeven, having viewed all twenty-three films in competition have decided to grant:

Osella for Best Cinematography to: Rodrigo PRIETO director of photography for the Se, Jie/ Lust, Caution by Ang Lee (USA/China/China, Taiwan) and GOLDEN LION for Best Film also to: Se, Jie/ Lust, Caution by Ang Lee (USA/China/China, Taiwan)

Rodrigo PRIETO, AMC/ASC (Mexico, 1965) started his career in Mexico. Between 1988 and 1991 he did 6 short features and from 1991 to 2000 worked in 16 long features. After having done Amore Perros/ Love Dogs (2000), directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, PRIETO's career completely turned around. The film was a huge success both among the critics and the public having won more than fifty awards worldwide. For it, PRIETO won the “Gold Frog” by Cameriamge (Poland) and also the Ariel Best Cinematography Award (Mexico).

In that same year (2000), PRIETO started collaborating in American feature films: Ten Tiny Love Stories (2001) by Rodrigo García, Original Sin (2001) by Michael Cristofer, Frida (2002), 8 Mile (2002) by Julie Taymor, 25th Hour (2002) by Spike Lee, Comandante (2003) by Oliver Stone, 21 Grams (2003) by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alexander (2004) by Oliver Stone, Brokeback Mountain (2005) by Ang Lee and Babel (2006) by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Before 2000 he has been awarded by Ariel Awards (Mexico) and in Spain and after that year he has been awarded in several festivals in the USA, UK and Poland. PRIETO's first collaboration with Ang Lee, Brokeback Mountain (2005) has granted him several awards and nominations, including an Oscar nomination. Now Se, Jie/ Lust, Caution (2006) again confirms it to be a successful alliance.
