This year's Best Cinematography winner was Hyung-koo KIM for The Host/ Gwoemul directed by Joon -ho Bong ( South Korea ). The film has also won Best Film, Best Actor and Best Visual Effects awards. Cinematographer Hyung-koo KIM has started his career in 1993 working with directors Sung- su KIM and highly awarded Korean director Sang- soo HONG - with whom he has shot his last film title Haebyonui yoin / Woman on the Beach (2006). He has a BA, Chung- Ang University ( Korea ); a M.F.A., American Film Institute (U.S.) and a Diploma by the Korean Academy of Film Arts ( Korea ). Besides being a Cinematographer he's a Film and Video producer doing also teaching at The Korean University of Arts.

The Asian Film Awards (AFA) had their first edition on March
20, 2007 . The initiative belongs to the Hong Kong International
Film Festival Society, a non-profit, non-government organization, "in
order to promote the art and creative business of cinema, with
an international dimension and outlook". Now, besides the previous
events already promoted by the society (Hong Kong International
Film Festival (HKIFF) and the Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing
Forum (HAF)) one more will be held every year to promote Asian
film industry around the world.
