BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS
For ANTHONY DOD MANTLE, DFF/BSC
On Wednesday, 29th November the British
Independent Film Awards ( BIFAs ) has celebrated its ninth edition at Hammersmith
Palais , London . BEST TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT award was granted to Cinematographer
ANTHONY DOD MANTLE, DFF/BSC by The Last King of Scotland . Its director Kevin
Macdonald was also awarded with BEST DIRECTOR - SPONSORED BY THE CREATIVE
PARTNERSHIP prize.
ANTHONY DOD MANTLE (1955, England , UK ) starts his career
in 1990 in Denmark . He works several times with directors: Thomas Vinterberg
( De
Største helte (1996), Festen (1998), It's
All About Love (2003), Dear Wendy (2005)), Cæcilia
Holbek Trier , Lars von Trier ( Dogville (2003), Manderlay (2005)),
and Danny Boyle ( 28 Days Later... (2002), Millions (2004)).
His career is therefore deeply connected with Dogma, a Danish aesthetic
film movement that was born during the nineties. Besides the titles already
mentioned he has also collaborated in Mifunes sidste sang (1999),
another important Dogma title, by Anders Thomas Jensen and Søren
Kragh -Jacobsen.
Recently he has done Brothers of the Head (2005) by Keith Fulton
and Louis Pepe , a UK production; and a short feature Sophie (2006)
and a long feature Istedgade (2006) with Danish director Birgitte
Stærmose . Premiering in 2007 he has Trip to Asia: The Quest
for Harmony (2007) by Thomas Grube , a documentary on music and the
comedy Hjemve (2007) by Lone Scherfig .
He was awarded three times
by the Robert Festival ( Denmark ) with Menneskedyret (1995), Festen (1998)
and It's All About Love (2003). With Dogville (2003)
and 28 Days Later... (2002) he was awarded in 2003 by the European
Film Awards. Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema
awarded him in 2000 by Julien Donkey-Boy (1999) - also
a Dogma film. In Camerimage he was nominated two times for Golden Frog
award: in 1998 by Festen (1998) and in 1999 by Mifunes sidste
sang (1999).
