Cinematographer Style has its Camerimage premiere

First festival European premiere is on November 28, 2006 at Camerimage.

Jon Fauer's , ASC documentary, Cinematographer Style , is the result of 200 hours of raw material in which 110 Cinematographers talk about cinematography. Not about cinematography in general but about their own personal history as cinematographers. Fauer choose to speak with top cinematographers and for three years he has done the same questions to all of them. The idea was o get a personal portrait of each cinematographer that can somehow unveil their personal style.

Cinematographer Style is both a tribute to Cinematography and also to each of the Cinematographers. Most of all, Fauer hopes it to be a precious recording that allows cinematographers personal style to be explained through their own words. Therefore, he decided to capture it on film so their words can live for hundreds of years hoping that this will allow present and future generations to better understand cinematography as an art: through cinematographers' words, usually "hidden" behind camera.

During 50 seconds, roughly, each cinematographer states how he started, how style evolved, technique and technology, and where do they think we're going. Cinematographer Style runs 90minutes and presents 110 top world Cinematographers that work not only for cinema but also for television, documentaries, music videos and commercials.

The idea for something like Cinematographer Style to happen started three years ago when ARRI's , Inc. President Volker Bahnemann suggested Fauer to film interviews with cinematographers for a 10-minute DVD for a book he was updating. Fauer thought that this could be an opportunity to collect historical material about cinematographers. In Cinematographer Style he collects 110, from 15 different countries.

Having its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) on June 25, it has been shown around several theatres and festival across the USA since then. In Europe , it has had its premiere in London at the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC).

Cinematographer Style has been recently released as a DVD, sold exclusively at ASC Bookstore and Fauer plans to use it as background for a book. A substantial portion of profits from DVD and book sales will be donated to the ASC.

Other scheduled screenings to be held at cinematography associations : Dansk Filmfotograf Forbund (Denmark): Dec. 6; The Netherlands Society of Cinematographers ( Netherlands ): Dec. 19; Associazione ltaliana Autori della Fotografia Cinematografica (AIC), end Dec.; and at Imago's Conference , Feb. 2007, hosted by Associação de Imagem Portuguesa ( Portugal ).
