Cinematography Workshops in Gothenburg - Sweden


In the first week of January 2007, LenzFlare will held a serious of workshops for cinematographers.

WORKSHOP 1

Advanced Cinematography Workshop.
Instructors: Bart Durkin, Christopher Hart

The focus of this workshop will be to cover variety of advanced lighting and camera techniques, including camera movements as well as processing and telecine techniques to give you the upper edge as a professional.

Participants must have at least 3 years of professional experience with 35- or 16mm in the commercial arena or has completed our Basic workshop. Admission is competetive.

Lighting related topics:

Controlling various exterior lighting conditions
Maintaining a consistent look throughout the shooting day
Beauty lighting for women (in commercials and features) using hard and soft lights, filters, behind-the-lens nets, etc.
Poor man's traveling car lighting in studio
Example of lighting exercise: Creating various lighting ratios, 'time-of-day' looks, mystery lighting glamour lighting, filter variations, etc.

Camera related topics:

Shift and tilt lenses
Anamorphic/Mesmerizer F/X lens
Shooting Arri 435 Xtreme with shutter out-of-sync using the Arri Timing Shift Box (TSB)
In-camera speed ramping with Arri 435
In-camera special effects: double exposure, glass reflection gag with polarizer (like "Simon Birtch"), light dimming for moving camera shot or simply for theatrical effect, etc.

Camera movement topics:

Using remote head systems (Power Pod, Hot Head, etc.).
"Trombone" shot effect
Camera blocking

Processing related topics:

Creating grainy images by pushing high speed films (S-8, 16mm)
Various film processes such as silver retention/bleach bypass (neg, intermediate, print), cross process reversal stock, push/pulling.
Desaturated color in prints: filters, pull process, retained silver in print, blending of ECN and B/W IP during printing stage, reducing chroma in digital intermediate stage.

Telecine related topics:

Variations in 'look' when using diffusion filter in the camera
Creating chemical looks in telecine, such as: bleach bypass, cross processing etc.

WORKSHOP2

European Masters Cinematography Program
Instructors: David Claessen

This workshop gives you the opportunity to discuss and experiment with a variety of topics with Hollywood professional David Claessen concerning alternative philosophies and techniques in shooting features, music videos, TV spots as well as discussing the industry choices, trends and be able to receive comments and advice from the Master regarding your work and future career.

WORKSHOP 3

Nordic Workshop for female cinematographers

This Basic workshop is dedicated for emerging female filmmakers who are in need of the much needed experience of working with film. Lenzflares drive and goals with this project is to help support and stimulate female cinematographers from all over the Nordic region to give them a stronger conpetitive edge on the Nordic and international market through strengthening their artistic and technical knowledge within cinematography with Nordic as well as international professional instructors as tutors.

The workshop results in that the participant is put on a platform, giving her the confidence in taking part of the industry arena after the education and aqcuiring all the information of today´s technical advancements within on of the keyareas of filmmaking: cinematography.

The participant will gain a working knowledge of the entire process of film-making: pre-production, production and post-production. Through discussions, analyzes and practical hands-on training with different types of equipment you will work from an inital concept to making a commercial, short film, music video or dramatic scene.
