EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS

Seminar - CINEMATOGRAPHY
COPENHAGEN-NOVEMBER 2006

A two day inspirational meeting between Danish and foreign cinematographers.

Panel participants are cinematographers that in their collaboration with the director have shown creativity and personal expression that is so evident - that we must meet them, talk with them and be mutually inspired.

The seminar should have the structure of a dialogue - with discussions, exchange of experience, explaining the explicit artistic choice - all together the cinematographic expression as pivotal point of departure.

The planners of the seminar will elaborate upon a series of questions, both of a more general content, but also on more specific issues with reference to technological developments within the film industry.

Taking as inspiration the oeuvre of a cinematographer, or single scenes of a film, or even a single frame - suggested by the planners of the seminar and by the invited panel cinematographers - the issues at debate would be:-

- the challenge of cinematography

- the personal expression

- the dialogue with the director

- are there national characteristics

- the discrete and the expressive

- style and genre

- are the technological developments restrictive or are they on the contrary

an unavoidable challenge entailing new creative possibilities

The seminar should thus have a con amore content, we will improvise - issues can surface while others are drowned, this dependent on the weighting and interest during the seminar - the inspiration of the moment should be the driving force.
