“Golden Frame” prize during the 30th Anniversary of AAC – Vienna

On June 13th the Austrian Association of Cinematographers (AAC) will celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Founded in April 1976 the AAC’s activities started soon with one of its -still urgent- main focus: establishing general valid working conditions. Their booklet “Film und Filmschaffende in Österreich” published in 1977 described for the first time the situation of the Austrian film industry from the filmmaker’s point of view. The main demand was a national film funding, which has finally been installed in 1980 realized in the way of AAC´s suggestions.

Additionally the AAC was a motive power for an Austrian collective agreement that came into effect in 1981. The working conditions have been defined and a minimum salary has been fixed in a binding contract between producers and filmmakers.

In the late 70ies the AAC started to work out regulations to unite all the other professional associations like these of the directors, editors and film architects which led 1987 to the foundation of the “Dachverband Österreichischer Filmschaffende”.

Very soon the AAC examined intensively with problems of authorship and suggested the installation of a collecting society in the late 80ies. It took three years until the VDFS (Verwertungsgesellschaft Dachverband Österreichischer Filmschaffender) has been founded in 1992.

From the beginning up to nowadays the AAC constantly took and still takes care on further development and continued education in fields of new technologies and artistic creation.

At its 10th anniversary the AAC established the “Golden Frame” to honour the best camerawork. This prize was given in irregular periods but mostly every second year.

At the upcoming event of a gala-celebration on 13th June the AAC will award by this tradition again one “Golden Frame “ for the best camerawork in a feature film and one for the best camerawork in a documentary by an international jury.
