Winners at the Manaki Film Festival – Macedonia



It was over last Sunday 25th one more edition of the Manaki Film Festival in Bitola – Macedonia. Cinematographer Yang Shu won the highest prize – Golden camera 300 for his work in the film “Peacock”, directed by Gu Changwei.

Here is the complete list of winners.

GOLDEN CAMERA 300
“Peacock”, for Cinematographer Yang Shu, for the lyrical style and consequent use of composition and images, as well as for the excellent balance between the story and images.

SILVER CAMERA 300
Ex-equo for the cinematography of “The Child” by the Alain Marcoen and “Fateless” by Gyula Pados for the inventive approach in the cinematography and writing of the story of the film in the images

THE BRONZE CAMERA 300
For the film “My Summer of Love”, Cinematographer Ryszard Lenczewski, for the melancholic and passionate atmosphere in the composition and light.

SPECIAL AWARD
by Mosfilm to “Sin City” by Rober Rodriguez for the inventive technical solution for adaptation of a strip into a film. This film is a real visual achievement.


The International Critics Jury awarded “Hidden” by the Cinematographer Christian Berger, for its masterful blending of new video technology with classical cinematography to elucidate the inner emotions and conflicting viewpoints of an intellectual torn between an ethical code and his moral conscience.

The film is awarded by the following members of the International Critics Jury: Ron Holloway (Film Critic, Moving Pictures; USA - President of the Jury), Miha Brun (Journalist - Revija STOP; Slovenia), Nenad Dukic (Film Critic, Radio Beograd 1st pr.; Serbia), Dubravka Lakic (Film Critic - “Politika Beograd”; Serbia), Julian Lopez Gomez (Journalist Euronews; France), Dorothea Moritz (Film Critic KINO; Germany), Suzana Todorovska Pavloska (Journalist Macedonian Radio; Macedonia) and Dzevdet Tuzlic (Journalist TV Sarajevo; B&H).

The Audience’s Award went to the Cinematographer of the film “Hidden”, Christian Berger.

The Student’s Prize, awarded by the students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje, went to the cinematographer of the film “Peacock”, Yang Shu.

The members of the Jury of the Students’ Program “Manaki Brothers”:
- Karpo Acimovic Godina (director, cinematographer, and professor in film directing at the Ljubljana Academy of Theater, Radio, Film, and Television),
- Marcello Busse (producer)
- Miroslav Mogorovic (producer and director of Belgrade International Film Festival FEST),

decided to give:

Award for the best student
director to the Russian film “After the Rain” – director Dushan Gligorov, cinematography: Ekaterina Dubrovskaya;

Award for the best film
to the Swedish “Summer Clouds” – director Axel Danielson, cinematography: Martin Hard and Axel Danielson;

Award for best camera
to the Polish film “Marlis” – directed by Ozon Achiktan, cinematographer Macieaj Sobieray.

The KODAK Company
awarded the best photography of two Macedonian student films. The award is KODAK negative valued at 500 euros by the choice of the winner. This year, the reward is given to the films: “Memories” (director and cinematographer Zlatko Kalenikov) and “15 seconds” (director Darjan Pejovski, cinematographer Gjorgji Klincharov).
This award is complemented by the award from the SYNCHRO FILM&VIDEO laboratory from Vienna that grants development and telecine of the granted KODAK negative.

The International Jury that awards the long feature films screened in the Festival’s Official Competition, whose members were:
