ACS International Award for Cinematography

Fresh from his pilgrimage to the Rome IAGA, the President of the ACS, Ron Johanson has announced in Sydney that the renowned Cinematographer Robert Richardson ASC is to be the recipient of the ACS International Cinematographer of the Year Award for his work on the Quentin Tarantino film “Inglourious Basterds”.

Massachusetts born Robert Richardson, aged 55, once apprenticed with Sven Nykvist and Nestor Almendros . He is no stranger to Awards and nominations, having won two Oscars for The Aviator and JFK as well as four further Oscar nominations for Platoon, Born on the 4th of July, Snow Falling on Cedars and Inglourious Basterds. His collaboration with Martin Scorsese (recently on Shutter Island), Oliver Stone and Quentin Tarantino are well documented and internationally admired.

The ACS International Award is an acknowledgement by Australian society members of excellence in cinematography. The award is open to any feature film cinematographer, of any nationality, working on the international stage. Previous recipients have been Dion Beebe ACS ASC, Roger Deakins BSC ASC, Emmanuel Lubezki AMC ASC and Anthony Dod Mantle BSC DFF.
The Award will be presented in Melbourne on May 1st.
