A Century of Danish Cinematography
Greetings from all DFF to all IMAGO

A Century of Danish Cinema
Danish cinema attracts considerable attention and artistic appreciation at home and abroad. Many of its actors become national celebrities. Its scriptwriters reach out to wide audiences and its directors are stars. But who actually carries the cameras?
The Eye of the Cinematographer is the first Danish book to study the way the cinematographer contributes creatively and technically to the visual aesthetics of a film. The authors have chosen particular chapters from the history of Danish cinema to convey the transformation of cinematography from simple, primitive registration to the digital and narrative challenges of moving images today.

Articles on the way cinematographers work with the rest of the film unit lead to statements by cinematographers themselves on their place in the history of Danish cinema. Finally the authors describe visual milestones in Danish film.
The illustrations consist of frame grabs produced especially for this book, augmented by a wide selection of stills, many of them appearing in print for the first time. Overall the book provides the reader with a fundamental understanding of the art of the cinematographer.

Editors are Dirk Brüel, Andreas Fischer-Hansen and Jan Weicke, all experienced filmmakers who also teach and lecture on the technical and creative challenges posed by the art of the cinematographer.
