National Film Centre of Latvia
The support given by Imago Societies in the battle for the continuation of the independent status of the National Film Centre of Latvia has been successful recognized in a letter of appreciation to the Imago President from the Minister of Culture, Ints Dalderis.
He writes" It has been my personal conviction that film culture is a significant part of any national culture, deserving a separate and independent organization as its supporting agency."
Due to efforts of the Minister of Culture, the Government of the Republic of Latvia decided on October 6th to support the independent status and confirming the continuation the " National Film Centre of Latvia". This State governmental institution will be reformed by January 2010 however cutting some of its functions as well as transferring others such as the Film Museum to the Latvian Academy of Culture.
The National Film Centre of Latvia will retain the following significant functions:
Furthering sustainable development and competitiveness of the Latvian Film Industry.
Coordinating participation of Latvian Film in European audiovisual support programmes Registration of Film Producers Overseeing implementation of film classification regulations
Imago would like to thank its member Societies for the support in writing it gave to the Latvian Society which has resulted so positively for our fellow cinematographers.
