IMAGO at MANAKI

To celebrate 30 years of the Manaki Brothers Festival in Macedonia it has been decided to grant two distinguished British Cinematographers, Peter Suschitzky ASC and Billy Williams OBE. BSC , Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The Festival Director, Labina Mitevska and her Committee have announced that both will be granted the Golden Camera 300 Awards in Bitola during the festivities.
“With the great tradition of British Cinema in mind, the International Festival is proud to honour two exceptional artists, Master Cinematographers who represent the best of the best” states Ms Mitevska.
Neither cinematographer is a stranger to Awards. Billy Williams BSC was recently given the Order of the British Empire a few days after his eightieth birthday. He won an Oscar for his work on Gandhi and his other films include, Women in Love, On Golden Pond and Sunday Bloody Sunday. Billy is a legendary figure in Camerimage, Poland returning to give students and cameramen of all ages the benefit of his many years as one of “the” British Cinematographers of his era.
Peter Suschitsky ASC is highly respected for the nine films he has shot with Canadian Director, David Cronenberg with whom he forged a bonding to establish that unique understanding between Director and Cinematographer. His main awards are for Dead Ringers, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Lisztomania, Crash and Valentino, for which he also received BSC and BAFTA nominations. His earlier career encompassed many milestones in British Cinema history.

Imago is organising a joint Master Class between these Cinematographers as a tribute to thirty years existence of the International Manaki Brothers Festival, the oldest Festival anywhere devoted to the skills of creative artists behind the camera.
The two cinematographers share much in common, despite a generation difference in ages. Both are the sons of distinguished cinematogaphers, both have worked with the British Director, Ken Russell and have mutual admiration for each others’ work. They are also both looking forward to the Manaki Brothers Festival, a unique experience which Imago is proud to support.
