Nigel Walters BSC honored by the Indian Society ISC

In the recent International Film Festival of Kerala former IMAGO president Nigel Walters BSC became an honorary member of the India Society of Cinematographers ISC for his great contribution in fostering solidarity amongst International cinematographers. Naturally feeling incredibly proud to be honored,

Nigel Walters thanked the Board and those responsible within IMAGO for the support given to the idea of a Global Federation. Without this support nothing would have been possible. «I trust the past eight years have been worthwhile and that IMAGO prospers as a truly International Federation to promote understanding and friendship in our amazing profession » said Nigel Walters BSC in his acceptance speech to a packed audience.

SCREENLAB 2015

As a prelude to the International Film Festival of Kerala 2015 edition, a SCREENLAB was conducted by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy in collaboration with Revathy Kalamandir Film Academy at the RKFA campus. Three day workshops in Cinematography, Production Design, Make-Up and Script Mentoring were conducted on 1st to 3rd December 2015. On Tuesday the 1st of December, the Screen Lab was inagurated by the eminent Indian Film Director Mr. Shyam Benegal.

Several veterans from the national and international film industry took classes and conducted demonstrations for the benifit of the Malayalam Film Industry professionals and film students. About 45 members of CUMAC (Cinematographers Union Of Malayalam Cinema) participated in the workshop. Many senior members of CUMAC, Mr. Ramachandra Babu, Mr. P Sukumar, Mr. Azhakappan, Mr. Saloo George, Mr. MJ Radhakrishnan, Mr. MD Sukumaran, Mr. Ismail Hassan, Mr. KG Praveen and many others participated in the workshop.

Mr. Nigel Walters BSC (Vice President, BSC & Ex-President, IMAGO), Mr. Piyush Shah ISC, Mr. Ken Metzker (Colourist) and Mr. Sunny Joseph ISC (President, CUMAC) were the chief mentors of the workshop. Many aspects of the cinematography practice in the digital era were discussed by the mentors and RED Camera (Weapon) were tested by Mr. Nigel Walters and Mr. Piyush Shah. On the last day the shot footage was seen at the DI suite in RKFA and Mr. Ken Metzker gave an in-depth demo of the possibilities in postproduction. Mr. Sunny Joseph screened parts of his new hindi film “Choti Moti Batein” directed by Sohini Dasgupta and discussed the challanges and possibilities of Digital Cinematography.

It was a great moment of joy for us cinematographers, when on the first day of the workshop Mr. Amit Sherigar representing KODAK announced the availability of Kodak Film Negatives in India. He gave the details of the current scenerio of Kodak and screened a promo film. More than 120 participants of Screenlab 2015 which included Cinematographers, Directors, Screenplay Writers, Make-Up Artists and Art Directors cheered and applauded the anouncement from KODAK. During the concluding session Mr. Ramachandra Babu ISC, presented the Honorary Membership of Indian Society of Cinematographers to Mr. Nigel Walters BSC for his outstanding contributions to the «fostering solidarity amongst International cinematographers»
